Servings: 4 Baby Servings
- 2 medium sweet potatoes
- Water breastmilk, or formula, as needed for puree
- 1 teaspoon olive oil optional for spears
For Sweet Potato Puree
Wash and peel the sweet potatoes.
Cut the sweet potatoes into 1-inch cubes.
To steam in the Instant Pot, place the sweet potato cubes in a steamer basket. Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of the Instant Pot. Pressure cook on high for 5 minutes, then carefully release the pressure.
To boil, place the sweet potato cubes in a pot of water. Bring to a boil and cook for 20–30 minutes, or until very soft.
Transfer the cooked sweet potatoes to a blender or food processor.
Blend until smooth, adding water, breastmilk, or formula a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
Let the puree cool completely before serving it to baby.
For Sweet Potato Spears
Wash and peel the sweet potatoes.
Cut the sweet potatoes into long, finger-shaped spears that are easy for baby to hold.
Lightly brush with olive oil, if using.
For the air fryer, cook at 180°C for 4–6 minutes per side, or until soft.
For the oven, roast until tender, about 10–15 minutes, depending on thickness.
Let the spears cool before serving.
Check that the sweet potato is soft enough to mash between your fingers before offering it to baby.
Do not add salt for baby.
Always supervise your baby while eating.
For younger babies, soft finger-shaped pieces are easier to grip than small pieces.
For puree, freeze leftovers in a silicone baby food tray. Once frozen, transfer cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container.
You can thin the puree with water, breastmilk, or formula.
Check with your pediatrician if you’re unsure whether your baby is ready to start solids.
